I want the kids join in with the cooking. This means the recipes have to be quick and almost instantly gratifying to spark their interest. The detailed stuff can be built up over time. Kids don't like waiting! That is why these pinwheels are really satisfying to make with them. They are fun, cheap, easy to do, any age can have a go and they cook really quickly so can be eaten fast! The best bit! This recipe makes a big pile that can be grabbed by little hands throughout the day. They are, however, most delicious warm straight from the oven.

Ingredients: 1 Pack of ready rolled puff pastry (This also works with gluten free puff pastry!), Tomato Puree, Salted butter to melt, Good quality Salt, Black Pepper to season, Dried Oregano and Cheddar Cheese. This is one of the only recipes where I wont bother putting exact amounts for the ingredients because you really don't need it. You'll need enough tomato puree spread out to cover the pastry surface (A big blob!), a knob of butter to melt to brush over the pastries, enough cheese scattered over to cover the puree (Grated works best to roll but I have used up slices here) and a sprinkle of everything else.

Method: Lay the pre rolled pastry out flat. Squidge on a big blob of tomato puree, enough to cover the base once spread out. Sprinkle over cheese to cover the puree. Grated works best. Sprinkle over salt and pepper, along with around 1tsp of dried Oregano for flavour. Roll the pastry up lengthways and cut slim circles across the length with a sharp knife. It should cut around 14 disc shape pieces but this depends on the thickness of your cut.

Lay the circles out on baking paper on a flat baking tray and squash them flat, as pictured above. Melt some butter (You want to use salted butter for flavour!) and spread a little over the tops of each circle. Sprinkle a little more salt and pepper on the tops and cook in a preheated oven at 180/Gas 4 for around 20-25 minutes until golden. These are best served warm but are tasty cold too so are perfect for lunch boxes or beach snacks on the go. Enjoy x
